What will we do without Dave?

Yesterday David Letterman announced that he will be retiring in 2015. Can you believe it? I mean, I guess I can, but I really thought Dave was going to be a lifer. As in, he would die in the chair. But I guess once you pass 65, you start to think about how great life would be if you could just be lazy and not make people laugh every night of the week. Fine Dave, you go and garden or whatever it is old people are doing nowadays.

I didn't know Dave in his early years, obviously - because I am not ancient. But I do know Dave in the later years and that guy, I love.

The current water cooler conversation is "who will replace Dave?" followed by tons of really stupid opinion and a few gems. What I want to know is, how you think anyone could? Do you know anyone that could get away with being a dick like Dave does? He isn't all the time, but when it's needed Dave will make his guests squirm. Everyone can be a dick, but Dave gets away with it because half of the time you think he may have developed dementia and doesn't even know he is doing it.

What will we do without Dave? Who else will halfheartedly read a top 10 list and occasionally not get the joke? Who else will have a 16 year feud with Oprah? Who else will hire Paul Schafer? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

While Dave is off doing his old man thing, CBS is going to have to find someone else to do their late night show. Currently, Craig Ferguson does the Late Late Show and, as we have seen with other networks - that is the person that generally moves into the roll. But CBS may want to switch it up, Craig is extremely funny and I think he would be great, but I'm just not sure he has the following needed to fill Dave's shoes.

Who then would I choose? Well, it has been noted that Chelsey Handler has said she is leaving E! and I think it would be ah-maze-ing to have a female fill some late night shoes. But, I'm not convinced that Chelsey has the demeanor that one needs to host on a network. She's hysterical, totally my kind of people - but not everyone gets, or loves my kind of people. She's a little crass and, if you can image, acts like she could care less than even Dave - and that's pretty damn care less.

Then there are the Comedy network guys - Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. I don't know if either of them would enjoy doing a Late Night show. I have heard Colbert's name thrown around a lot and I just don't see that fitting (and now that I have said that he will probably get the job because the universe is completely against me this week).

I think I'm on Team Chelsey for this one guys. I know I have basically just screwed her chances, but here's to hoping. (Or at LEAST let her take over Craig's show...at least.)

XOXO
Jes...
