Carly Rae Jepsen leads the JUNO Award nominee pack with 5 nominations

The JUNO Award nominees were announced this morning and Canada's current Princess of music, Carly Rae Jepsen, leads the pack with five nominations.

Jepsen is nominated for Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and JUNO Fan Choice Award.

If nothing else she should win for Single of the Year - Call Me Maybe, but we know that sometimes the inner hipster of the JUNO judges can get the best of them and we end up with a winning roster of people we didn't know existed, let alone were Canada's best.

That being said, there is a pretty strong line up of 'cool kids' on the ballot this year, so it could go either way.

After being a no show on the Grammy nomination ballot, Justin Bieber received four nominations for his album Believe going head to head with his protege Jepsen in every category except Single of the Year.

Metric, Hedley, Sheepdogs, Marianas Trench, Billy Talent, Celine Dion and Leonard Cohen all received three nominations.

Two of my favorite categories are always Breakthrough Group and Breakthrough Artist because artists that you have been following for years will show up in the category and you think, finally recognition! This year I fist pumped for Hey Ocean! and The Pack a.d. in the Breakthrough Group category and The Weeknd for Breakthrough Artist.

I must point out the most interesting/odd/random nomination going to Rod Stewart's Christmas album Merry Christmas, Baby getting a nomination in the International Album of the year along with heavy hitters Taylor Swift, Red; Maroon 5, Overexposed; Mumford and Sons, Babel and One Direction, Up All Night.

The JUNO Awards will air on CTV Sunday April 21 live from Regina with host Michael Buble. If you would like to attend the show tickets go on sale Friday February 22 at 10 AM on Ticketmaster.

XOXO
