Big Brother Canada Cast Announced: What are the numbers?

The cast of Big Brother Canada was announced today. 15 people from across Canada that will make up our country's version of one of the greatest game shows of all time.

15 is a lot of people to go through so let me break it down for you in numbers.
  • Gender: 7 girls and 8 guys
  • Age: 8 are 24 - 27, 3 are 20 - 21 and 4 are 29 - 38
  • Residence: BC 3 (Surrey, East Van, Vancouver); Alberta 3 (Calgary, Edmonton (2)); Ontario 6 (Toronto (3), Scarborough (2), Richmond Hill); Nova Scotia 3 (Halifax, Gore, New Glasgow)
  • Occupation: 5 students, 3 bartenders, 6 normal jobs
  • Fans: 9 people referenced being fans of other version of BB

Interesting that we have 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada and the players are made up of 4 provinces. I am not surprised, however, that Ontario had the highest number of participants. Auditions were held in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax so that would have contributed to the only ones picked being from those cities - except Montreal.

I am very curious why there is not a single person in the house from Quebec and they had an audition in their province. I am also very curious as to what the French Canadians are going to think about this dis. I realize that it was an American who was doing the casting, but does she not realize that this may start a war...or at least be the catalyst for yet another separatist vote?

The gender, age and occupations all seem to be in line with the American version. Most of the people playing are usually in their mid twenties and there are a couple of older folk thrown in an some younger annoying people.

Diversity was one of the key things that the producers of the show said that they wanted to represent in the casting. I think they did a pretty good job of getting a lot of different ethnicities and, what looks like a lot of different social backgrounds. I was thinking that they would be casting some kind of redneck...which may be the case with the dairy farmer, but we shall see.

I am kind of disappointed that they don't have more of the provinces represented, but as long as the cast doesn't suck then they will be forgiven.

Speaking of the cast - here a a quick view of the lucky contenders for the $100,000 prize.
