Congrats to Susan H on winning the headphones!

I had a conversation the other day about the very first CD I ever owned. It was NSYNC…I know, I know – how is that even possible? I don't know what to tell you, but when I die (as the biggest Backstreet Boys fan on the planet) they will have to state in my eulogy that of all my past grievances – this was probably the worst. I would then have them follow up by saying it was the first CD I OWNED - my brother bought it for me for Christmas – so it is really not as bad as you think. Ugh, never mind – it so is.
Anyways, what is the point of that story and what does it have to do with you winning a set of Beats by Dre In-Ear Headphones? Well let me tell you...to enter the contest you have to tell me the first tape or CD you ever owned and which song from it you played on repeat. If you don't remember you could always lie...but that usually doesn't go over well with the karma boomerang, trust me - I know.
You know part of my answer, but what song did I play on repeat? NONE. Put that in my eulogy, I was so pissed at my brother for buying it for me I don't remember listening to it at all. Suck on that NSYNCers.
Entries must be made by leaving a comment in the comment section below. Please be sure to include your name, email and answer. Contest is open to residents of Canada only (excluding Quebec - why? I don't know, but for some reason people from Quebec aren't allowed to win things from other provinces - I don't make the rules). Contest closes October 17, 2012 at midnight.
XOXO
Jes...
This contest was made possible by the fine folks over at Ladbrokes.com ...because slot machines are fun and you would much rather play them at home than with some old casino lifer standing behind you waiting to steal your machine. (This is not their tag line, but if they want to use it I give them permission).

I was just talking about this the other day with someone, and I think you'll appreciate this: the first cd i ever owned was the Aladdin soundtrack! and the song i listned to on repeat was a toss up between A Friend like Me and a Whole New World (of course)
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous. Aladdin is da bomb...however, I am not sure why anyone would listen to A Friend Like Me on Repeat. A Whole New World I can see...but I would have picked Prince Ali as my up tempo.
DeleteHayley Cooper hayze15@msn.com My first RECORD was Janet Jackson's "Control" (1986) played "Nasty" on repeat. First CD was Salt N Peppa's "Very Necessary" (1993) played "Shoop" and "Whatta Man" on repeat.
ReplyDeleteWhatta Man. Nice...I had not ever heard Shoop though. Just listened to it, never again.
DeleteErnie Wong wongernie99@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy first CD was Much Music dance mix '93. I had Bobby Brown - Humpin' Around, and 2 Unlimited - No Limit on repeat a lot!
DANCE MIX! Epic...but can we agree that Bobby Brown is one fugly man?
DeleteThe first tape I ever owned was Dance Party 95 - solely because it was the only tape that had the Macarena on it at that time.
ReplyDeleteI guess that was my favorite song too.
Macarena: everything that was wrong with the 90s.
DeleteThe first CD I ever bought myself was Much Dance 2000. There were a few songs that I would listen to on repeat on there, notably Eminem's "My Name Is", Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop, and my all time favourite Vengaboys "Boom Boom Boom Boom"
ReplyDelete(Charlotte: charlotte.a.campbell@gmail.com
Vengaboys...they need to get back together - and if they are still together, they need a comeback!
DeleteFor whom the Bell tolls from "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica. Amazing song that evokes the right feels in me.
ReplyDeleteAaron, we can't be friends.
DeleteIt's a bit hard to remember that far back my best guess would be Pink Floyd the Wall best song was Comfortably Numb
ReplyDeleteI do not know this song so I can't rag on you - plus your name is Bob which means you are probably my elder thus it would be extremely rude of me to make fun of your answer.
DeleteI tried to think of the first tape I bought but thats going back into the late 70's. I was the first among my friends to own a CD player when they first came out in the early 80's,
DeleteBOB...enough of your excuses - and stop bragging about how rich your parents were. It's tacky.
DeleteAlso - you are yet to be entered in the contest as I see no email address in either of your answers.
I wish I was a rich kid I cut a lot lawns and shoveled a lot of driveways to buy my gear
DeleteHeres my email
technobob420(at)yahoo(dot)ca
I can't believe I'm admitting this, but my first TAPE was new kids on the block. Listened to step by step more times than was probably healthy. Oh god kill me now. Email is my name entered @ the url entered.
ReplyDeleteChanie - we could have been friends if you hadn't been ashamed of your boy band love. Own that shit.
DeleteMy first CD was Madonna, The Immaculate Collection. I listened to Vogue over and over. That was way back when it was still okay for Madonna to wear those outfits. Now it is just a little bit creepy...like your grandmother running around in her underwear.
ReplyDeleteJennifer

Madge is a lot creepy these days.
DeleteMy very first CD was "Beelzebubba" by The Dead Milkmen. The song I played over and over was "Sri Lanka Sex Hotel".

DeleteFirst tape I ever owned, which was given to me for my birthday from my Grandma was Middle of Nowhere by Hanson and I listened to three songs over and over again, "mmmbop", "Yearbook" and "I Will Come to You".
ReplyDeleteJust sucked that it was a tape and the three songs were not one after another.
Amymary.s@hotmail.com
Ah the era of rewind. Kids these days don't know what they are missing.
DeleteMy first Album I ever Owned was Linkin Park Hybrid Theory. I was never allowed to buy music because of my parents so I bought this album without my parents knowing haha WINNING!!! The song's I had on repeat was Crawling, and In the End.

I'll cry for your lack of a childhood if you can cry for mine.
DeleteThe first tape I ever owned was The Head On the Door by The Cure .. I bought it because I loved the song Close To Me .. that I played over and over and over again. I loved that tape, wore it out ! I was 12 years old ... 26 years later and I still love The Cure !!
ReplyDeleteheatherholmberg@hotmail.com
Loyalty is rare these days Heather - DO NOT LET YOUR LOVE DIE!
DeleteAerosmith - Get a Grip and I listened to Livin on the Edge on repeat!!
ReplyDeleteAh, the days when Steven Tyler's skin was still relatively on his face.
DeleteI was lucky to get two tapes the first time I bought an album. No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom & The Score by The Fugees. The two songs I had on repeat were "Don't Speak" and of course "Killing Me Softly". :D
ReplyDeleteEmail: canadadrygreentea (at) hotmail (dot) com

DeleteMy first tape was Listen Without Prejudice by George Michael. Song on repeat was "They Won't Go When I Go".
ReplyDeleteWas this still around the time when chicks thought they had a chance with Georgy?

ReplyDeleteNote to anyone else who thinks this is a valid entry - it is not. 3 things: NAME, ANSWER, EMAIL. I don't know how some people manage to get out of bed in the morning.
DeleteMy first CD was SPICE Girls "Spice" album. I played Wannabe over and over again.

ReplyDeleteMy first cd was spice world. I played the song too much over and over again.

Delete(Just kidding - this entry is valid)
My First cd was Our Lady Peace - Clumsy. The whole album was on repeat

This was the one with superman drowning in a pool right? Good shit.
DeleteFunny for me it was a first album and it was the partridge family lol , my first CD was when I was a teenager and it was the band "traffic" I loved the song Dear Mr fantasy
ReplyDeleteroswello at hotmail dot com

Deletekarma chameleon Wham sharonnekatz@hotmail.com It is awesome.

DeleteRebecca Arboly / soundsofdaylight@gmail.com / Backstreet Boys - Backstreet's Back
ReplyDeleteI was ten years old and my mom finally bought us our very first CD player from Zellers. I was so excited but realized we had no cd's (yes we were pretty slow with the times) so we begged her for the new BSB cd. I had "As Long as You Love Me" on repeat.
OH EM JEE REBECCA. I think we should be friends. BSB 4 LIFE! Best.
DeleteMy first cassette tape was Snow! haha Obviously the song on repeat was Informer.
ReplyDeleteLisa Johnson doublelj17@hotmail.com

The first tape I have ever owned was Smashing Pumpkins
"Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" and the song that I constantly put on repeat was 1979 =)
Did Billy Corgan still have hair then? I could never picture it.
DeleteMy first CD was MJ's Number Ones. I'd repeat quite a few of the songs, but the best was "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" =P
ReplyDeleteDave Cao
g.alonso45@gmail.com
If you had MJ's number ones...does that mean you never bought any of his other albums cause you assumed you were already listening to the best? Hope not.

ReplyDeleteMy first cd was C+C Music Factory and the song i kept on repeat was Everybody Dance Now.
ReplyDeletehelderh@live.com
Now this song will be stuck in my head for the remainder of the evening. Great.
DeleteI can't remember the first tape I owned. BTW, constantly repeating a song on tape is hard as you will have to keep hitting the rewind and FF button just right. As for my first CD, it's probably Yo-Yo Ma / Bobby McFerrin's "Hush". It's incredible and unique what those two can make together.
ReplyDeletehenrycalibre8 at gmail dot com
Henry, I didn't make a contest so you could argue with me about the hardships of our youth. If you had a favorite song you just had to remember how many seconds to hold down your rewind button and you were good to go. Geez, don't be so lazy.
DeleteI would also like to point out that your answer sounded pretty pretentious. I'm not saying YOU are pretentious, just your choice (it would be rude of me to assume, as I do not know you).
My first tape that I ever had was Michael Jackson's Dangerous. I had "Black and White" and the song from Free Willy "Will You Be There" on REPEAT. It used to drive my parents crazy!

ReplyDeletewawazat2001@gmail.com
Yeah, classic.
DeleteMy first CD I ever owned was by Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning glory? I replayed the track "roll with it" over and over and over again, i think it was track 2!
ReplyDeleteDave Pyle davidpyle@shaw.ca
HOLY HELL DAVE YOU KNOW THE TRACK NUMBER?! You know that wasn't part of the entry right? No extra points for mind blowing memory.
Deletefirst tape was the first backstreet boys album. i listened to the whole thing over and over again
ReplyDeletelisaandkevin@yahoo.ca
After seeing all the BSB 'first tape/CD' owners I am wondering if you are all just appealing to my obvious love for the boys...IT WILL NOT WORK. I literally put all your names in a hat and draw.
DeleteBut if it WAS really your first tape - I applaud you and hope that the 'andKevin' part of your email address is because you loved Kevin so much.
The first cd that I ever got was the same day my sister got her first cd as well. She got Spice Girls 'Spice' and I got No Doubt's 'Tragic Kingdom'. I always played Spiderwebs over and over and over again! I still have it in my house, of course its scratched to hell, but that just means I loved it so much.
ReplyDeleteSimon Phanthathirath

Simon, I wanted to write a really witty reply to the fact that you are still carting around a scratched CD...but I noticed that it is snowing outside and it completely took the wit right out of my life.

Carolina, it's not like I don't believe you, but why is it that pretty much every single one of the entries in this contest are CDs that are major hits and would be look down by no one? I can't make fun of the fact that you had an MJ album. It's chapping my ass.
