Move Review: See Girl Run (CIFF 2012)

There is this trend in the American independent movie scene of making movies which are realistic to the point that you don't even want to watch them because they remind you how lame life actually is. This is one of those movies.

Emmie (Robin Tunney) is 35, married, owns her own business and lives in New York. Her life seems somewhat ideal, but as humans we are rarely satisfied with where were are at and we constantly wonder what if...

Emmie's high school boyfriend is Jason (Adam Scott). When she left for college they never broke up, but life happened and now Emmie finds herself thinking of her former BF, idolizing the glory days and thinking about what her life would have been like had she stayed with her high school sweetheart. Romanticizing what could have been.

We've all been there.

Good basis for a story, but I left the theatre thinking...I don't really have any thoughts. It wasn't boring, but it wasn't enthralling. It was very real-life, aka semi-depressing with a shot of reality. If I want to get some real life drama I'll call up one of my girlfriends and ask them to detail their latest personal dilemma...and really, who does that? Not I.

Verdict: 2.5 Stars
