Movie Review: The Campaign

I swore off Will Ferrell years ago. The man just got to be too much for me...too stupid and often paired with someone who didn't balance out his outrageousness. My brain would start bleeding and I felt sudden death coming on any time I watch a movie made in the years after Old School.

Enter Zach Galifianakis. He is a great Yin to Ferrell's Yang. I was impressed how not annoyed I was with the whole thing. They were both funny...AND we got to see Ferrell punch not only a baby (as seen in the previews), but a dog as well. Gold.

My favorite part of this flick however, was not either of the stars, but a blast from the past: Dylan McDermott. 1. Because I forgot how hot he is and 2. He was such a hilarious creepy douche bag, he brought on the sideline laughs like no ones business.

I don't think I would go as far as to say that it was some sort of brilliant political satire. It wasn't smart enough for was funny, but in an "I'm punching a baby in the face because politicians are supposed to kiss babies" kind of way...not an "I am digging into the real political problems and making witty sharp jokes about them."  If that is what they were going for - they were waaaaay off. But it they wanted a crude quirky movie with some good punch lines - we have a winner.

Regardless, they are totally going to be able to cash in on this election business that I guarantee will take over American televisions as soon as Ryan Lochte and crew return home to being no-bodies for the next 4 years.

Verdict: 3.9 Stars

The Campaign comes out on Friday August 10, 2012
