Movie Review: Magic Mike

Magic Mike was not as magical as I thought it would be. Booooo.

For those of you who are going to see this for the male stripping...there isn't enough. For those of you who aren't, no seriously...why would you go to this movie for anything other than to see Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Matt Bomber rip their cloths off? You are weird.

Anyways, back to the naked men.

Tatum plays the "I am a stripper, but I have bigger plans for myself" main character. McConaughey plays the older stripper dude who exploits the younger less weird dudes for cash. Pettyfer plays the young kid who gets brought into the madness after making some bad decisions and gets caught up in the 'lifestyle'.  Bomber and the rest of the cast play the guys who have no morals and like getting messed up and taking off their clothes. Yum.

Taking off their clothes. That is why I went to see this movie. I didn't go because Channing Tatum is a good actor, because he is sub-par at best. I didn't go to see a love story between a stripper and some girl that sounds like a dude. I didn't go to see some back story. I went for the did the gang of housewives that were at the theatre with me. I am actually sad that no one threw money at the screen. that I think about it, I am f-cking devastated. Why would no one do that?! Tisk tisk.

Anyways, I wanted a two hour strip show and it just wasn't there. This was not the ladies night I had hoped it would be. And any ladies who have actually gone to real strippers outside of Las Vegas can vouch...they are a bunch of butter faces on roids who occasionally think frosting ones tips is still acceptable. Gross.

If anything this movie may have made male stripping seem a little more acceptable...and since there is a general acceptance towards housewives getting aroused (RE: Fifty Shades of Shit) maybe we will actually get some better can only hope.

Verdict: 2.5 Stars

  1. Im sorry but do people do research before they go watch a movie? Steven Soderbergh is behind this movie. That alone should tell people stripping wont be the main focus.

  2. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

  3. A magnificent hybrid of clever and comical that very few directors could pull off.
