In Review: The Avengers

The most massive super sequel to date: The Avengers. I was so nervous that this was going to suck! Tons of hype and no delivery, but luckily...I was not disappointed.

I am by no means a comic book person, nor do I pretend to have the in depth background that many people who watched this movie do, but I have seen all of the movies that make up this magical cast of characters (Ironman I and II, Captain America, Thor). I even saw the Incredible Hulk where Edward Norton played Bruce Banner...which Marvel obviously wanted us to forget by casting Mark Ruffalo in his place.

The obvious stand out was Robert Downey Jr.. He made this movie...and I am going to go out on a limb and say that this movie would have licked so badly if he wasn't in it. Everyone else played their roles to a T. Chris Evans was kind of boring, but one could expect that from someone who was born when your grandparents were still sperm. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, less ignorant this time round...thank the Lord. Jeremy Renner was in Thor as well, glad he had more air time this time around. Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson were also in Ironman...more screen time as well. Surprisingly enough I liked Hohansson. I know, it blew my mind too.

Now for everyone who hasn't seen the other movies...I am not sure if they are going to like it as much. I am trying to figure out if I would be lost had I not seen them. You would have no idea who Loki, the villain, was. The 'frozen' Captain America thing may be a road block as may the Tony Stark shrapnel near the heart thing. I don't know. Part of the reason I loved it so much was because it drew from the other movies.

There was one part of the movie that I didn't like. When Bruce turns into the Hulk, the guy just rages and has no control...supposedly, until they are fighting the bad guys and then all of a sudden he can tell the difference between the good and the bad? That makes no sense and I didn't think, if there was a reason for it, it was explained. Of course the one lame part of the movie would have to do with the Hulk.

Besides that it was pretty near perfect for me. Now if only I had had my brother there to watch it with me...he is my superhero movie watching buddy. It's not the same watching it without a walking comic encyclopedia.

Verdict: 4.2 Stars

I also appreciated the Stan Lee cameo. I laughed.
