And the Oscar nominees are...

The 84th Annual Oscar nominees were named this morning. A couple of surprises, but all in all...pretty much what you would have expected.

Jonah Hill grabbed a nomination in the Supporting Actor category...I still don't get what the big deal was with his performance in Moneyball, but good for him. Melissa McCarthy got a nomination for being a disgusting dog hoarding chick in Bridesmaids...which also got a nomination for best Original Screenplay.

There were only 9 nominations in the Best Picture category, instead of 10. It has something to do with the number of 1st place votes that a film needs to get put on the ballot. The Tree of Life, which was shut out of the Golden Globes, was nominated. I have yet to see this, but some say that it is too abstract for the average person to enjoy it. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was also a surprise nomination in that category.

In the original song category there was only 2 songs "Man or Muppet" from The Muppets and 'Real in Rio' from Rio. So I guess we aren't going to have an Elton John and Madonna glare-off like the Golden Globes...which is unfortunate. I am still not sure why there are only 2 songs nominated in this category. I haven't heard the Rio song...but I would have to go with it as the winner because I have heard the Muppet song.

My biggest disappointment was the Ryan Gosling shut out. Not just Gosling, but the films he was in. No Ides of March or Drive nominees...he just keeps getting robbed. Humph. I hate you world. I blame this on his non-attendance at the Golden Globes.

Here are the main category nominations...bolded are the ones that I would LIKE to win, not necessarily who I think will win...I will not give away my choices because I want to win the Oscar pool. Sorry.
