I Want It That Way - Banned in China!

You have got to be kidding me. A list of 100 songs was release which are supposedly going to be banned from being on the internet (sale, download, listed on search engines etc.) in China come September 15 and the Backstreet Boys made this list. Rad, but I Want it That Way? Really? The songs on the list have been deemed 'culturally harmful' and 'vulgar.'

China never ceases to amaze me so I am not really surprised. Most of the songs on the list are by Asian artists who I don't know, but there are also a lot of Western artists as well including:
  • Backstreet Boys: I Want it that Way
  • Simple Plan (4): You Suck at Love, Can't Keep My Hands Off of You, Loser of the Year, Freaking Me Out
  • Owl City (3): Honey and the Bee, The Real World, Plant Life
  • Lady Gaga (6): Edge of Glory, Hair, Marry the Night, Americano, Judas, Bloody Mary
  • Beyonce (1): Run the World (Girls)
  • Britney Spears (Madonna cover) (1): Burning Up
  • Katy Perry (2): Last Friday Night, E.T.
  • Take That (4): The Flood, Love Love, When We Were Young, Pretty Things
  • Natalie Walker (3): Uptight, Mars, Cool Kids
Who is this Natalie Walker character? Thanks just gave me someone new to listen to (that is if she is any good...the fact that you have Owl City on your list indicates the Chinese have poor taste in music).

If the purpose was to eliminate listening to bad music you think they would have thrown on every Black Eyed Peas song ever written and stated that new BEP music made in the future will also be banned.

It is such as weird list.  To see the full thing click here. If you can't read Chinese - then you are out of luck for the remainder of the songs.
