Get ready for a myriad of posts of one of my favorite festivals of the year, The Calgary Folk Music Festival.

The first performance I saw of '11 was Joel Plaskett. Now I need to tell you...I have heard so many great things about JP for YEARS as my bestie from the East Coast is pretty much his biggest fan. She does it in her panties whenever she sees him live - I wish I was kidding. I have been in the same city at the same time a Joel on different occasions, but I failed to ever see him in concert. Tonight I lost my Joel Plaskett V-Card. And it was gooooood.

He started the set rocking out hard. The people in the standing room were grooving and beaming. Obviously I was surrounded by fans. Then he let his band leave the stage and played an acoustic set. I find that the singer songwriter types really shine when they are given a guitar and microphone. JP is no exception. After his acoustic set, I can see why bestie is in love with him. You can't tell me that isn't one of the cutest men you have ever seen live.

After a short solo stage gig, the band came back and Plaskett and crew brought it home. What a way to start off the festival. It was an omen for good things to come.
