In Review: Crazy, Stupid, Love

As a human who does not wear her heart on her sleeve there were points in Crazy, Stupid, Love where, I'll be honest, I wanted to choke on my own tongue. There were other parts that I wondered how someone could face such utter rejection and not implode on oneself. And finally, there were parts that made me so uncomfortable I wanted to crawl under my painful theatre chair.

Those three things being said, overall I have to say that the movie was refreshing. It was real, but not so real that you hate life (as one usually does when watching very real-life movies as they usually make you feel like crap); it had some unexpected twists that catch you off guard, it was funny, but not in a shocking kind of way and well...Mr. Hot - Ryan Gosling, showed his face, biceps, abs and sexy grin. I was prepared to see a so-so movie with this year's top contender for Sexiest Man Alive, not one of the best rom-coms in recent memory.

I don't need to say anything more about Ryan Gosling, he killed it by the way, but I would like to say that the rest of the cast was stellar. Steve Carell plays the dorky loser, but he cleans up so well. Like, eff Steve...trying to give Ryan a run for his money or what? Julianne Moore plays the 40-something woman that you want to love in a way that Jennifer Aniston only wish she could. Kevin Bacon...well, I could have done without him.

Now Emma Stone. I love her. As an actress and as a person I think she is top notch, but as the hot bombshell that this movie was selling her as? Um, no. No one is perfect Emma, so you can't have it all. It's not that she is dog-bit-your-face ugly, but she is by no means pretty - traditional or otherwise. I do slightly feel bad (that small part of me that has feelings) for saying this, but it needed to be said.

I think if we got rid of the children in this film it would've been terrific.

Verdict: 4.0 Stars
