Cheers
"Where Everybody Knows Your Name"
I would like to go to a bar where everybody knows my name...as long as it is because they all like me not cause I am the town drunk or something. Since I am not ancient, this is about as far back as I could get with actually remembering a TV theme when the show was still on. So cheers to you Cheers for staying memorable.
Fresh Prince
Back in the day of Aladdin pants and neon bright you we super cool if you could rap the opening scene to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I think I could probably still do it too...and obviously only the really rad people retained the song.
Friends
"I'll Be There for You"
Since Friends is my all time favourite show this was obviously going on the list. This song was a one hit wonder for the band The Rembrants...and can pretty much be sung by anyone who grew up in the 90s (except those living on Amish farms or Polygamist ranches).
The Sopranos
"Woke Up This Morning"
This song is so dope it used to be my ringtone...unfortunately it is kind of quiet so I had to change it...but I definitely felt bad ass when I had it. HBO programs, such as True Blood and Entourage, still have love for the theme song. Respect.
The O.C.
"California"
Another one hit wonder...as far as I know. Phantom Planet hasn't come out with anything since this I don't think. I feel like this was the last of the great TV theme songs as after about 2004 many shows started cutting the theme song all together or had only music playing in the background (or if you call shat like The Hills real shows, then they would just take an already popular song and plop it in the opening credits...lame). The OC was dead to me after season 2, but I still embrace the song.
Boomtown
This one didn't actually make the final five cut (as you can see there are 6 videos on this post), but it was the theme that gave me the brain child for this top five. The show itself wasn't that great, but I love the theme song and the montage.
