Young Artists For Haiti

57 Canadian Artists got together in February to record K'Naan's Wavin Flag to raise funds for Haitian Relief.

The song will debut tomorrow and will include the voices of Justin Bieber, Drake, Esthero, Jully Black, Jacob Hoggard, Emliy Haines, K'Naan, Avril Lavigne, Lights, Matt Mays, Justin Nozuka, Kardinal Offishall, Serena Ryder, Hawksley Workman, and others.

The press release did not include Chad Kroeger so I think we're good...maybe...or maybe they left him off so that people would not be scared off of the song. Who knows. I like Wavin Flag...but giant groups of musicians getting together to sing a song usually ends badly. Example: every other song that groups of celebrities have sung together.

All of the proceeds from the sale of the single will go to War Child Canada, Free The Children and World Vision in their individual efforts on-the-ground in Haiti. So I will buy it...it is for a good cause.

The song will premiere tonight on Much Music at midnight. How exciting.

UPDATE:

UPDATE 2: Officially the BEST celebrity all star song EVER. I am biased cause they are all Canadians...but for real. K'Naan for PM. Download it now on iTunes

XOXO

  1. Disagree! That 'What's Goin On' song that a bunch of artists made after 9/11 is great!

Or maybe I'm just the only one...?

  2. Little Stevie's all-star attack on apartheid 25 yrs ago, "Sun City", still kicks the collective ass of every other lame social-consciousness/fund raising song written.

It didn't get nearly as much recognition as "We Are The World", despite being 1,000,000 times better. Stood to reason, since it featured 1,000,000 times the talent. It gave me a huge respect for Little Stevie, and even made me accept a few artists I thought sucked before I saw them in this video. (OK, I still think Hall & Oates suck).

But could anything with Bono, Lou Reed, Joey Ramone, George Clinton, & Eddie Kendricks NOT be the ultimate in coolness?

In contrast to WATW, Sun City was "a song about change, not charity; freedom, not famine." And it certainly changed my own thinking about South African apartheid.

What makes it special is the passion every single artist exhibits - in the midst of a spirit of invigorating jubilation!
