Letter to the Dean...

June 17, 2011

Good Afternoon,

I am sure you and the rest of the country have been made well aware of the riots that took place in Vancouver on June 15, 2011. As a proud resident of Vancouver was I embarrassed? Angry? Saddened? All of the above.

But this news hit a little closer to home upon reading on numerous media outlets that one of the main instigators of police vehicle fires was an incoming University of Calgary student. In fact, this individual is not just any student, but a scholarship winner, Dino’s athlete and Olympic hopeful. As a U of C alumni, I am embarrassed that someone with such low moral character is associated with my university. I know that other graduates would feel equally disturbed to know that their alumni donations were being used to fund the education of someone so pathetic.

I urge you to take the necessary steps to disassociate your educational institution from someone who so clearly lacks respect for personal property, the safety of others and the city of Vancouver. Should you require more information on your student, Mr. Nathan Kotylak, feel free to google his name or see the link below:

  1. I've e-mailed all my friends and posted on my FaceBook page that I would rather Canada end up losing an Olympic gold medal in water polo and to be able to hold my head up high than to have my country be represented by someone like Kotylak.

    Signed,
    Joe Chan.
